Wood Thilsted: Engineering the foundations of offshore wind

Location: London, Edinburgh and Bristol, with international offices across Europe and Asia-Pacific.
Some of the world’s largest offshore wind projects have been delivered with the support of Wood Thilsted, including ScottishPower Renewables’ East Anglia Hub. The engineering consultancy was founded in England in 2015 and with the UK being one of the biggest offshore wind markets in the world, it’s gone from strength-to-strength.

Wood Thilsted specialises in the engineering and design of offshore wind turbine foundations for challenging marine environments, including the North Sea. The company has provided primary and secondary foundation design alongside a range of specialist engineering services, including micrositing, resonant sea state assessments, and installation-related fatigue life analysis for the East Anglia Hub.

Winning contracts with ScottishPower has supported Wood Thilsted's continued growth in the UK and internationally. The company operates its own graduate programme and uses major projects such as East Anglia to give early-career engineers hands-on experience alongside industry-leading specialists.

Through its work on ScottishPower Renewables’ nationally significant offshore wind developments, Wood Thilsted is helping to develop the next generation of engineers and build the specialist skills needed to support the long-term success of the renewable energy sector.

The company is also committed to supporting local communities through its "Wood Thilsted 4 Good" programme.  It runs STEM education activities, volunteering initiatives and environmental projects across its locations, investing in its communities and helping to inspire the next generation of UK engineers.

"At Wood Thilsted, our purpose is to accelerate the global green energy transition, and projects such as East Anglia Hub show what can be achieved when developers and specialist engineering partners work together.  “Our relationship with ScottishPower Renewables has enabled us to contribute to a nationally significant offshore wind project while continuing to invest in our people, develop specialist expertise and grow in the UK and internationally."
