Sean McPhee: From emissions to electrification

Sean McPhee made the switch from oil and gas to electricity grid after the closure of Grangemouth refinery and ScottishPower’s proactive lifeline offered to affected workers.

His decade-long experience at Petroineos working on its 11kV high-voltage network, including switching earthing and electrical documentation, gave him the transferable skills that were a great fit for a successful transition to SP Energy Networks.

"The skills and experience I gained at Petroineos helped me settle into my new role quickly and provided a strong foundation in safety, processes and procedures," said Sean.

"I would strongly encourage anyone considering a move to SPEN to explore the opportunities available. There are excellent career prospects and plenty of support to help you succeed."

While SPEN's network is larger and more complex, Sean says many aspects of the role are familiar, with a shared focus on planning, safety and operational excellence. He credits the support of colleagues and the opportunity to learn from experienced team members as key to his successful transition.
