Scotland: An energy powerhouse, from power to plug

None of this would be possible without the businesses that help us build, operate and maintain our energy infrastructure. Many of them are based here in Scotland, supporting jobs, developing skills and helping us deliver the investment needed for Britain’s clean electricity future.

We spend more with our supply chain in Scotland than in any other region of the UK. Last year, we spent £841.5 million with business partners operating in Scotland. That’s more than a third of our total UK supply chain spend.

We work with companies including: 

• Kirby: Kirby is a long-term partner to ScottishPower and we’ve worked together for more than 13 years. The engineering contractor helps us design, build and upgrade critical electricity infrastructure across Scotland. Today, Kirby works on more than 20 projects with us each year, with over 100 employees dedicated to delivering this work.
• M Group: M Group is helping us upgrade Scotland’s electricity network. Its teams are delivering major projects across central and southern Scotland, including a £110 million upgrade to one of the main power routes between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Our long-term partnership is helping strengthen the network while supporting skilled jobs and investment in the wider supply chain.
• Morgan Sindall Infrastructure: Our work with Morgan Sindall Infrastructure is bringing investment closer to the communities where we’re building. For our major Denny to Wishaw project, its teams will build and upgrade substations and overhead lines across central Scotland. We’re also opening a shared office at Eurocentral, helping create skilled employment in the Central Belt while delivering the infrastructure Scotland needs for the future.
• Together, these businesses form a strong Scottish supply chain that is helping build a more resilient, renewable and homegrown energy system, while supporting jobs, skills and businesses here in Scotland.
