Multi-million investment to futureproof network

The multi-million investment will see 2.5km of cabling and a new substation installed to strengthen the local electricity network and meet growing demand as homes and businesses make the switch to cleaner and greener technologies like electric vehicles, solar panels and heat pumps.

The first phase of works will get underway from Monday 14 September, with the installation of cable ducts on Chelford Road and at the Legh Road junction, which will involve some access restrictions on the adjoining roads of Leycester Road and Parkfield Road. This stage of the works is expected to continue until mid-November.

The works will be carried out by Warrington-based contractor Opus, which employs around 280 people locally.

This £2.5 million investment will strengthen the local electricity network in Knutsford, ensuring it can continue to meet the needs of homes, businesses and communities for years to come.

"We're also pleased to be working with Opus to deliver this project, drawing on local employment and expertise while investing in infrastructure that will bring lasting benefits to the area."

The first works will involve the temporary closure of the Legh Road and Chelford Road junction between 14-20 September. Temporary traffic lights will also be installed on a section of Chelford Road between the Gough Lane roundabout and the Legh Arms pub from 17 September- -11 November. Access to Leycester Road and Parkfield Road will be restricted to residents and key services during this period.

Brian added: “We know these essential works may lead to longer journey times than usual and have worked closely with Cheshire East Council to keep any disruption to a minimum, but we do encourage road users to allow extra time for their journeys and apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.”
