M Group: Moving on up with ScottishPower's investment

Location: Stevenage, Hertfordshire
M Group is helping deliver one of the major infrastructure upgrades at the heart of Scotland’s electricity network, supporting ScottishPower as it invests to increase capacity and strengthen energy security.

The company has secured a £110 million contract with ScottishPower to refurbish more than 70km of the 400kV Strathaven to Smeaton overhead line. Running from South Lanarkshire to East Lothian, the route is one of the main power corridors between Glasgow and Edinburgh, with components first installed in the 1960s.

M Group’s skilled teams will replace ageing components and deploy advanced, higher-capacity technology, helping strengthen the network for local communities, support future electricity demand and increase the amount of power that can be moved around the country.

The contract is also helping secure skilled jobs for M Group’s workforce and support local employment as the business delivers this major upgrade.

The business, headquartered in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, operates across 300 locations throughout the UK and Ireland, employing 14,000 people.

“We’re delighted to play a central role in delivering this crucial upgrade to one of Scotland’s most important electricity corridors. Delivering work with SP Energy Networks not only secures skilled jobs for our people and supports local employment, but also highlights our commitment to safe, efficient delivery on a project that will underpin the energy network for years to come”
