Legal team recognised for pro-bono work

05/11/2026

Our legal team has been shortlisted for a top award for its work supporting charities and young people.

The team has delivered more than 860 hours of pro bono work since 2024 and is now in the running for Pro Bono Team of the Year at the Herald Law Awards of Scotland 2026.

In collaboration with law firms, they have developed a structured partnership to support a wide range of projects.

These have included a charity that provides free, nutritious breakfasts to children at risk of morning hunger and delivering legal education to secondary school pupils, encouraging young people from communities experiencing economic disadvantage to consider legal careers

Marion Venman, General Counsel, said: “At ScottishPower, pro bono is a structured and strategic part of how our legal team operates.

“Our programme brings together our in-house legal team with leading law firms to provide legal advice, training and practical resources to charities and non-profit organisations.

“We want to use our legal expertise to support underserved and vulnerable communities and help charities navigate complex legal issues.

“Every member of my team is expected to contribute at least ten hours of pro bono each year. That sends a clear message that pro bono is not an optional extra or something reserved for a small group of volunteers. It is part of our culture, and it is wonderful to see that being recognised.”

The awards ceremony takes place on November 12.
