Erin Lovett: From footie to forklift

Heading into a final year of studying PE at university with one eye on a possible teaching career, Erin – then a semi-professional player with Wrexham AFC Women – took the decision to apply for ScottishPower’s apprenticeship programme after hearing good things about the company.

Now halfway through her first year, Erin is learning all about logistics, storekeeping and managing resources at SP Energy Network’s Queensferry hub in North Wales. Helping ensure engineering teams have the equipment they need to keep the lights on, she’s even learned to drive a forklift – all while helping her football team secure their first-ever major silverware.

Erin said: “You don’t truly realise the size, scale and opportunities that ScottishPower can offer until you’re in the door and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. The people are great and there’s such a supportive network – I can’t recommend it highly enough!

“While the apprenticeship for me was more about the guidance, support and learning available, ScottishPower more than competes on pay so it really is a win-win. I definitely feel this is somewhere I can stay and build a long-lasting career and I intend to make the most of it.”
