East Anglia: Creating the UK’s eminent offshore wind hub

ScottishPower has been investing in East Anglia for nearly a decade. As one of the UK's most important locations for offshore windfarms, we’ve built a strong presence, centred around Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth.

We opened our first windfarm, East Anglia ONE, off the Suffolk coast in 2020. Our second and third sites, East Anglia TWO and THREE are under construction.  

None of this would have been possible without a strong local supply chain and we’re proud to have help it develop over the last decade. We’ve invested £62 million into companies in East Anglia over the last five years alone.  Creating jobs, creating opportunities and creating a new economy for the region.   

These companies include: 

  • Associated British Ports (ABP): ABP runs the port in Lowestoft which we use as the base for our operations. This is crucial to carrying out maintenance on each of the windfarms we’re building and operating off the East Anglian coast.  
  • Peel Ports: Their Great Yarmouth port is where we pre-assemble components for each wind turbine before transporting it out to sea for final assembly. The port was also vital to support construction of East Anglia ONE. 
  • 3sun Group: Also based in Great Yarmouth, 3Sun delivered a range of services that helped us build East Anglia ONE. This included offshore technicians, waste management services, and health and safety training – vital for working offshore in demanding seas. 
  • CWind: Our offshore windfarms operate for 20 years or more. CWind specialises in helping to maintain these sites, keeping them in good working order throughout their lives. The company helps us maintain the subsea foundations of our wind turbines and offshore substation. They also carried out pre-engineering studies to inform our construction plans.  
  • University of East Anglia: Our commitment to East Anglia is also about the next generation of workers. That’s why we sponsor ten engineering master’s students at the university to help pioneer future energy technologies and invest in the workforce that will drive the UK’s energy transition.
