Dumfries and Galloway: Businesses benefit from grid expansion
Location: Dumfriesshire, Southern Scotland
Our £19 million upgrade to SP Energy Networks 132kV AL Route in Dumfries and Galloway delivered solid contract opportunities for local contractors playing a key role in the works.

Businesses including Mackay Development Services in Annan, Connicks of Newton Stewart, F Sheckley Haulage, based in Gretna, Maxwells Construction and Civils in Castle Douglas, and Foundation Solutions HV in New Cumnock, plus Lanark based CL Drainage & Fencing, played a key role in delivering the project.
The valued contracts didn’t just support the build of the much needed grid infrastructure, but delivered real economic impact for the local businesses and opened up further opportunities for additional work in the future.
Eleven trainees also kickstarted their careers, including one from SP Energy Networks and ten from Bathgate based principal contractor Aureos.Hear more on how our grid build out is strengthening the UK supply chain.
"Projects like this give long-term job security. We know as engineers that once we finish one job we are straight onto the next, sometimes working on more than one at once. Having sight of that pipeline of work is hugely important for long-term business stability throughout the supply chain. On this project in particular we were able to develop strong local relationships through the engagement of a local contractor who established a yard in Eaglesfield near Annan - that really helps in terms of the local community, they know the outfits that are working here and the standard of work is very high."
