Camlin Energy: Innovating for a smarter power network

For more than 20 years, Camlin Energy has worked with ScottishPower to develop technologies that make Britain’s electricity network safer, smarter and more resilient.

The Northern Irish manufacturing and technology company develops and manufactures monitoring and analytics technologies for electricity networks. Its long-standing partnership with ScottishPower has helped take new technologies from initial trials through to everyday use across the network.

Together, Camlin and ScottishPower have developed and deployed innovations including LineSIGHT, which monitors overhead lines to identify faults and potential safety risks. They also ran a pilot across Cumbria and Greater Manchester which tested how low carbon technologies like EVs, heat pumps and solar could be managed and deliver efficiencies in the grid. Using sophisticated tech that made appliances more efficient, it was able to reduce the voltage supply which, if adopted at scale, could help reduce bills.

Wider investment in the electricity grid is enabling Camlin to invest in people, creating jobs in its hometown of Lisburn and more widely across Northern Ireland.  It recruited 115 new employees in 2025 and runs a Global Early Careers Programme covering internships, industrial placements and graduate roles, alongside fostering strong partnerships with Queen’s University Belfast and Ulster University.
