ScottishPower Renewables Welcomes Arab Ambassadors To Whitelee

ScottishPower Renewables last week welcomed UK Ambassadors from several Arab States to Europe’s largest windfarm, Whitelee, as part of an international fact finding visit.

The group of officials were given a detailed tour of the 140 turbine windfarm and provided with an insight of how the facility is operated and managed. In addition they saw the very popular Visitor Centre with its interactive exhibits and education hub.

Information was also given on the work currently underway to extend the windfarm to 539MW, enough cleaner, greener energy to power the equivalent of over 300,000 homes.

Representing Kuwait, Lebanon Qatar, Baharain Egypt, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Sudan, Yemen, Tunisia, Algeria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia the Ambassadors took a great interest in the growth of renewable energy within Scotland and how Whitelee has become more than just a windfarm and is now an education and outdoor activity attraction.

Simon Christian, UK Managing Director, ScottishPower Renewables said: “We were delighted to welcome the Ambassadors to Whitelee and to pass on some of our knowledge and experience.

“Scotland is leading the way in renewable energy development and it is encouraging to see other countries taking time to learn more about our activities and about what we are trying to achieve.”

His Excellency, Mr Khaled Abdulaziz Al-Duwaisan GVCO, the Ambassador of Kuwait to the UK spoke for the group:

“It was a really great education for us and we are very impressed with the project and the determination to make it happen.

“We are studying it and hopefully we will send some people from our part of the world to learn from this project and then we can apply it in our countries.”
