Fundación IBERDROLA has announced its scholarship programme for master’s studies in energy and the environment in the United States.

With this initiative, the Foundation seeks to promote the training of professionals who are capable of leading the industry towards a sustainable model that meets the energy needs of society and contributes to the protection of the environment.

As part of its commitment to society and knowledge sharing, more than 800 young people have had the opportunity to advance their education through work experience in the IBERDROLA Group and postgraduate studies at international universities.

With this announcement, Fundación IBERDROLA will grant new scholarships for the 2013/2014 academic year, which are open to Spanish, British and American students with a recognised university degree.

The selected candidates must focus their training on areas related to renewable energy, sustainable energy systems, the environment and biodiversity, clean carbon technologies and emission management, energy efficiency, energy storage, the electric vehicle and smart grids. The master’s studies may be completed at the University of Rochester or the University of Maine, both in the United States.

Ann Loughrey, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at ScottishPower, said: “We are committed to supporting further education in the energy industry. The scholarship programme has already assisted some fantastic students in pursuing their Masters qualifications, and our aim is to continue to develop skilled leaders of the future.”

Fundación IBERDROLA will meet the full cost of enrolment as well as provide a $25,200 (over £15,000*) annual allowance. The Foundation will also provide a travel grant of $1,900 (around £1,200*) for transatlantic flights.

In the selection process, Fundación IBERDROLA will take into account aspects such as; academic grades, CV, area of study and references. Special consideration will be given to those candidates who submit the final acceptance certificate issued by either university.

The registration period will open on the day the announcement is made and will close at 2pm on 15th February 2013. Those interested must fill in the on-line registration form and terms and conditions are available on the Foundation’s website.
