UK Pavilion opening
Good morning everyone. It’s my pleasure and honour to join you for the opening of the UK Pavilion today.
The pleasure is all the greater for me because Glasgow is ScottishPower’s home city.
At a time of such intense environmental crisis and when the need to find a global path the Net Zero has become so urgent, I think it’s fitting that the eyes of the world – the hopes of the world – are now on the city whose name means “dear, green place” in Scottish Gaelic.

New EV chargers unveiled at Glasgow Science Centre
- ScottishPower has provided electric vehicle chargers to Glasgow Science Centre ahead of COP26
- Set to host the Green Zone in less than three weeks, the site will now have new, state of the art chargers available to attendees
- Following the end of COP26 the chargers will be available to members of the public as they visit the beloved Glasgow attraction

ScottishPower has provided electric vehicle chargers to Glasgow Science Centre ahead of the visitor attraction transforming into the Green Zone for COP26.
Set to be one of the most important climate summits in recent history, the Green Zone is where the public, civil society, Indigenous Peoples, youth groups, charities, academics, artists and businesses can have their voices heard at COP26, through an extensive programme of events, workshops, talks and exhibitions that promote dialogue, awareness, education and commitments.
The new dual chargers, capable of charging six vehicles at a time, will be available for attendees at the Green Zone. The chargers are the first to be installed at Glasgow Science Centre and will be available to members of the public following the end of COP26.
The installation of the chargers marks an important step for Glasgow Science Centre as it continues its work to not only decarbonise its operations but also to encourage its visitors to reduce their own carbon footprint when visiting the centre.
For ScottishPower, providing these new chargers to the public is another step forward in its work to deliver on its EV Public Charging strategy.
Chris Carberry, ScottishPowers’ Smart Solutions Director, said: “We’re really pleased to be able to provide these electric vehicle chargers to Glasgow Science Centre ahead of COP26.
“The climate summit will agree action to tackle climate change and we know that one of the tools we have is to decarbonise transport. We hope that these chargers will be of great benefit to members of the Green Zone during COP26, but more importantly we hope that they will be used daily by visitors to the science centre for years to come.
“We’re working to provide a reliable and accessible charging network so we can support everyone to make the change to electric vehicle and this is a great step forward in our work.”
Stephen Breslin, chief executive of Glasgow Science Centre, said: "The electric vehicle charging points are a very welcome addition to our outdoor space, which has recently been transformed.
"They join our new cycle paths and better access for pedestrians, which is all part of making journeys to and from Glasgow Science Centre more sustainable.
"We're grateful to ScottishPower for the addition to our efforts to become an even greener visitor attraction and learning centre."
ScottishPower will be responsible for the operation of the chargers for the next decade and the charging rates will be in line with ScottishPower’s UK charging model.

ScottishPower Statement on Hydrogen Strategy
Keith Anderson, ScottishPower CEO, welcomed the UK Government’s Hydrogen Strategy:
The Strategy’s industry support scheme is a clear and welcome sign of the UK’s ambition to be a hydrogen leader. It will provide much-needed speed and scale, enabling the industry to kick off world-leading green hydrogen projects over the next two years.
“We believe that zero means zero. We fully support the aims of the hydrogen strategy, and the best way of meeting them is to prioritise the delivery of zero emission green hydrogen production facilities across the UK.
“Industrial scale facilities, like our flagship 20MW electrolyser at the UK’s largest onshore windfarm, Whitelee, will quickly demonstrate how green hydrogen will be invaluable in decarbonising areas of the economy that are difficult to electrify, such as heavy industrial processes and heavy transport.
“The ambition shown in the Government’s hydrogen strategy matches the size of the opportunity in bringing forward green jobs and unleashing private sector investment in a zero emission technology that will be one of our best weapons in the fight against climate change”.
