On completion of your programme, you will move into your permanent post with a starting salary of £44,000.

Programme Overview
Our Graduate Apprenticeship Programme offers a unique opportunity to work across different operational sites and teams, giving you hands-on experience in everything from network planning and asset management to fault response and customer service, whilst studying towards your degree on a part-time basis.
As a Graduate Apprentice in Engineering, you’ll be immersed in a hands-on and academic journey to develop into a fully qualified engineer. You’ll contribute directly to planning, constructing, maintaining, and innovating SPEN’s distribution networks.
What you’ll be doing:
Gain practical, hands-on experience in both field-based and office-based roles, supporting engineering teams in maintaining, upgrading, and responding to faults in critical infrastructure
Assist in the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of substations, overhead lines, and underground cable systems.
Work alongside engineers and craftspersons on site deployment, network upgrades, and fault resolution.
Contribute to innovative projects aimed at improving network efficiency, reliability, and decarbonisation efforts.
Collaborate safely in both office and field environments as part of a supportive, innovative team culture that values continuous improvement
Learning & Development
Combine on-the-job learning and part-time formal study at university.
Earn a degree - BEng (Hons) across 4 years.
Receive mentoring support and structured development aligned with career milestones.
Where you’ll be working
You’ll be based in one of our operational regions across Central and Southern Scotland - with a mix of time spent in the office and out on-site. This blend gives you the chance to see how our network works in the real world, connect with different teams, and gain hands-on experience that goes beyond the desk.
