Scottish Business Climate Collaboration claims ‘Net Zero Heroes’ title at CeeD Awards

03/04/2025

An exciting initiative part-founded by ScottishPower during COP26 in Glasgow in 2021 to help business lead the fight against climate change has picked up the ‘Net Zero Heroes’ award at the annual Centre of Engineering Education & Development (CeeD) Awards.

The Scottish Business Climate Collaboration (SBCC) was created by ScottishPower and other leading corporate businesses with major footprints in Scotland to help lead the fight against climate change, inspire action as a legacy of COP26 and accelerate the just transition to a net zero future.

The award recognises the benefits of collaborative working between the founding companies – Aggreko, Diageo, EY, FirstGroup, Bank of Scotland, ScottishPower, Scottish Water and Wood Group – and the small and medium-sized (SME) business community they support.

This includes the creation of the Climate Action Hub – a free-to-use platform designed to help companies understand what net zero means, provide the tools for them to measure their own carbon footprints and develop action plans to support them on their decarbonisation journeys.

Supported and promoted by the SBCC, Scottish Government and Zero Waste Scotland, the Hub – which has been accessed by around 500 SMEs to date – features a multitude of resources including 12 short e-learning modules on topics ranging from entry-level climate science to carbon emissions related to business practices.

Dr. Sam Gardner, ScottishPower’s Head of Climate Change and Sustainability, said: “We’re proud to be part of the SBCC and receive the CeeD ‘Net Zero Heroes’ award. This collaboration was borne out of the collective commitment to be a force for good across the business community and we can clearly see that’s paying dividends, with hundreds of businesses making use of the Climate Action Hub.

“The Hub is a fantastic resource that will help business benefit from the environmental and economic opportunities available as we work together towards a cleaner and greener future. The real net zero heroes are those businesses who strive every day to take a step in the right direction and we at ScottishPower and the SBCC are right behind them.”
