Our Business

ScottishPower is part of the Iberdrola Group, one of the world’s largest integrated utility companies and a world leader in wind energy. We’re proud to say we produce 100% green electricity and are well on our way on our ultimate journey to Net Zero.

Within SP Energy Networks our focus is on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. Our team is building a dynamic network to meet the changing demands for electricity and increasingly, renewable electricity – safely, securely and sustainably in the communities we serve.

We need talented, hardworking and flexible people to join us and deliver a better future, quicker.

What do we offer?

Your programme is tailored to you and your personal development and will include a combination of behavioural and technical modules and placements. As a graduate trainee and part of ScottishPower, you’ll have a range of benefits as well as a varied and interesting career path, including:

  • Starting Salary will be £28,400
  • Stakeholder pension scheme
  • Generous holiday entitlement
  • Subsidised gym facilities
  • A range of employee discounts

What will you be doing?

As we focus our efforts on achieving Net Zero, our Smart Grid is one of the key ways we can realise this ambition. Bringing a new era of reliability, availability and efficiency that will contribute to our economic and environmental health, the Smart Grid facilitates two-way communication which allows us to respond digitally to rapid changes in demand or faults on our network, minimising the impact on our customers, communities and stakeholders.

Within the Telecoms Team in SP Energy Networks, we’re responsible for providing and managing the telecoms infrastructure that makes our smart grid so smart. We know as soon as faults develop and can take immediate action. And we can see how substations are running to optimise efficiency. We’re embracing this new technological evolution.

As a Telecoms graduate, you’ll be involved in providing the telecoms infrastructure that allows us to monitor and control the network, ensuring that the electricity continues to flow throughout our network. And with access to a variety of technologies such as satellite communications, cables, fibre communications and point to point or multi point radios, your telecoms knowledge will grow exponentially. You’ll have the opportunity to design and deliver large scale projects, providing you with in depth knowledge of all our communications technology. We’re constantly creating innovative solutions to everyday problems and, right now, we’re trialling a private 4G network that will allow us to connect to remote substations or those where terrain prevents connection, so our Smart Grid knows no bounds. We constantly challenge ourselves to unleash the power of technology and we hope you will too!

You’ll find information on all our current and future projects on our web page: SP Energy Networks.

Your two-year graduate programme is tailored to you, to provide the foundations for your career. At the end of your programme we’ll help you find the right role for you.

Who are we looking for?

We need people who are ambitious with a desire to learn, who embrace new ideas and challenge others to think differently. Above all, you must share our passion for excellence and be able to deliver results and impress our customers so that we can all be proud of where we work. If this sounds like you, jump start your career now - with a global business making a real difference to the way we generate and use energy.
