Longannet Power Station

ScottishPower’s Longannet Power Station in Fife, was the second largest power station in the UK until its closure in March 2016.

The station, which was in operation from 1972 to 2016, ran on pulverised coal and generated enough power (using its four 600mw generating units) to meet the needs of two million homes.

The Fife-based power station is now in the process of decommissioning and demolition and this work is expected to take up to 5 years.
