- The grants cover 1,200 pounds sterling or 2,100 dollars per month and also cover the cost of the registration fee

The Fundación IBERDROLA has announced the first round of its programme of scholarships for postgraduate studies in energy and the environment at academic centres in the United Kingdom and the United States.
The initiative is aimed at forging professionals for a sustainable energy model able to meet the energy needs of the public while at the same time protecting th environment.
The Fundación IBERDROLA will grant up to 14 scholarships for the 2011/ 2012 year. Graduates or students in their last year of an undergraduate degree and with Spanish, British or U.S. nationality are eligible to apply. The scholarships are intended to promote student mobility in the regions where the IBERDROLA Group has its major operations.
The recipients should focus their study on areas linked to renewable energies, sustainable energy systems, the environment and biodiversity, clean carbon technologies, emissions management and carbon capture, energy efficiency, energy storage, electric vehicles or smart grids. To do so, they will be able to choose from six institutions: Imperial College London, Edinburgh University and Strathclyde University in the United Kingdom, and in the United States from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Rochester Institute of Technology or the University of Maine.
The Fundación IBERDROLA will pay the full registration fee and a monthly allowance of 1,200 pounds sterling or 2,100 dollars. For those that have to travel on a return transatlantic flight, the institution will also pay a travel allowance worth 1,500 euros.
In the selection process, the Fundación IBERDROLA will assess various aspects, such as academic grades, resumé, interest in intended studies and letter of reference from candidates' referees. The enrolment period is open until 14.00 on 31st March 2011. The conditions for scholarships may be consulted on the website www.fundacioniberdrola.org.
