Scotstoun Stadium was rocking yesterday as Carrick Academy from South Ayrshire saw off stiff competition from St Thomas Aquinas as they sealed a place in the final of the ScottishPower Warriors Rugby Championship.
The three Carrick rugby teams from S1, S2 and an under-15 girls team showed just why they have been labelled as one of the teams of the tournament as they displayed outstanding passing skills and energy in abundance to see off an admirable challenge from St Thomas Aquinas.

The school can now look forward to the final match against opponents Shawlands Academy on Friday 6 May to determine who will lift the ScottishPower Warriors Rugby Championship trophy and win new rugby kits for their school. The school which secures second place can also look forward to a coaching session with a member of the Glasgow Warriors squad.
Glasgow Warriors stars Finn Russell, Grayson Hart, Peter Horne, Mark Bennett were among those who attended the semi-final match at Scotstoun to cheer on the schools and give pupils some inspirational advice as they took to the pitch. Warriors player Finn Russell said, “It was fantastic to be a part of the semi-finals today and help give the schools a few words of advice before their big matches. All the players put everything they had into getting their school into the final of the tournament and there were very impressive skill levels on show. Congratulations to Carrick, we look forward to seeing them challenge for silverware back at Scotstoun next week.”
Michael Kirk, Carrick Academy rugby coach said: “What a great day of rugby which provided our pupils with a fantastic experience at the home of the Glasgow Warriors. There was a high level of skill, commitment and natural talent on show today at the ScottishPower Warriors Rugby Championship semi-final which was great to see. We’re delighted to progress to the final after the effort and hard work that the pupils have put in, and we’re looking forward to taking on Shawlands Academy in the final.”
