A new ScottishPower business has been given the green light by the energy regulator, Ofgem, to deliver and support new grid connections across Great Britain.
The electricity distribution licence for Sphere Energy Connect – ScottishPower’s first Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO) – will see the company design, own and operate new localised electricity networks, offering smart and sustainable solutions for customers.
Focused on the final section of the electricity network – the so-called ‘last mile’ – to ensure electricity flows safely and directly to customers, Sphere will work with partners to connect new homes, businesses and developments to the country’s existing electricity infrastructure.
Partners will include Independent Connection Providers (ICPs), developers and Charge Point Operators (CPOs) as Sphere works to grow the business and expand the team.
Helen Fairlie, Director of ScottishPower’s Sphere Energy Connect said: “Sphere is all about connecting people and powering progress. As part of ScottishPower, Sphere seamlessly blends the agility and innovation of a start up with the strength and reputation of a trusted business.
“Our decades of experience and understanding of the complexities of the energy landscape mean we are perfectly positioned to support our customers, embrace smarter ways of working and collaborate effectively to deliver the best possible projects. We’re passionate about helping the UK achieve its climate ambitions and excited for Sphere Energy Connect to play its part in driving a cleaner and greener future.”
Sphere can own and operate local electricity networks across Great Britain, with no restrictions to geographical areas.
Sphere will operate independently of the ScottishPower distribution networks operated through SP Energy Networks and SP Electricity North West.
