SP Energy Networks has announced its support for one of the most established agricultural shows in the country by becoming a new Principal Partner of the Cheshire County Show at Tabley Showground near Knutsford on 17th and 18th June.
SP Energy Networks manages more than 10,000km of cables and over 30,000 substations across its network. With the harvest season approaching, the Show will provide a valuable platform for SP Energy Networks to raise awareness amongst farmers and farm workers on the dangers of working close to overhead power lines, which can cause potentially fatal or serious injury.
To illustrate the dangers, SP Energy Networks will host a series of dramatic pyrotechnic demonstrations during the Show and provide guidance and advice on working safely with power.
Huw Thomas, Operations Manager for Mid Cheshire at SP Energy Networks said, “Our partnership at the Cheshire Show will help us to increase safety awareness amongst the agricultural sector, where outdoor work is often carried out in the vicinity of power lines and other potential hazards.
“Recognising potential dangers is paramount and we hope that by showcasing the risks we can help to reduce incidents, which can have fatal consequences. With increased activity on farms over the summer months, when work can be carried out close to the power lines, we want to help workers to be informed and to stay safe.”
SP Energy Networks, which is part of the ScottishPower Group, will sponsor the Countryside Experience area at the popular two-day Show. Visitors will have the chance to try their hand at a range of activities including archery and clay pigeon shooting along with the chance to enjoy various displays by the Cheshire Constabulary Police Dog Unit, a gun dog demonstration, horse riding displays and falconry.
The Cheshire County Show will again include livestock, horses, poultry, rabbits, guinea pigs, pigeons, dogs, rare breeds, vintage machinery WI, Rural Life, Booths Cheese, and Wine. With over 700 Trade Stands, the show also includes a Countryside Experience area, a Play Zone, two large Roberts Bakery Food Halls of local and regional producers and a Roberts Bakery Food Live Theatre.
Nigel Evans, Executive Director of the Cheshire County Show said: “We are delighted to welcome SP Energy Networks to the show this year and would like to thank them for becoming the Principal Partner of the Countryside Experience Area.”
“We have an exciting schedule for the Countryside Experience Area so come along for a great day out with all the family come rain or shine.”
The number of visitors to the show continues to soar every year and as many as 80,000 people have attended the event in recent years making it one of the most well established agricultural shows in the country.
