ScottishPower Comment regarding Ofgem announcement on liquidity and competition in energy markets

12/06/2013

Neil Clitheroe, CEO ScottishPower Retail and Generation, said:

“ScottishPower has always believed that it is important that fair market access is available for all wholesale market participants, large or small, incumbent or new-entrant. Ofgem’s announcement today is intended to help achieve this and we will of course review it in detail.

“We recently wrote to 56 independent retail energy suppliers, and have established bilateral trading relationships with a number of those companies under which we supply them with wholesale power which meets their specific needs over a range of durations. Discussions with other companies are ongoing. Our existing approach is well aligned with making access to generation as easy as possible for small suppliers.

“We also have longstanding bilateral trading relationships with a number of independent generators whereby we buy output from a range of organisations, from operators of small community projects to operators of large coal or gas-fired plants, and many projects in-between covering most technologies.

“Furthermore, we are active members of a number of energy exchanges which offer further options for market access to new entrants.”
