ScottishPower Comment on Ofgem proposals to change the formula to set transmission charges for power generators

21/12/2011

Keith Anderson, ScottishPower’s Chief Corporate Officer, said: “ScottishPower has participated fully in Ofgem’s review of transmission charging to ensure the correct arrangements are in place to facilitate the timely move to a low carbon energy sector whilst providing safe, secure, high quality network services at value for money for consumers. We welcome Ofgem’s statement that the charging formula needs to be updated to make it fairer and to reflect the new realities of the generation mix.

“However, there remains a concern that the proposals do not go far enough. Ofgem’s proposed rejection of socialised charging would still result in conventional electricity generators located a distance from the GB centre of demand, continuing to face high locational transmission charges. We will now be studying the proposals in detail and look forward to engaging further with Ofgem during the consultation period.”
