What opportunities do we have on offer for you?

Engineering Graduate - Glasgow and London

As a leader in the renewables energy industry, ScottishPower Renewables have ambitious plans for growth. You can expect to see expansion of our existing onshore and offshore wind portfolio, investment in new large-scale solar deployment, pioneering floating wind technologies and innovative grid storage systems including batteries. This will be key to enabling the UK’s green energy transition, and we want you to be a part of it.

As an Engineer within ScottishPower Renewables, you could play a key role in the planning, design, and construction of some of the largest onshore and offshore windfarms in the world. Or you could be engaging with communities on our proposals for photovoltaic sites as we strive to increase our renewable energy mix. Whichever path you take, you’ll learn key skills to really kick start your renewables career and play your part in the fight against climate change.

We want to hear from you NOW if you have, or expect to achieve, an Honours Degree (or equivalent) at a minimum of 2:2 in Electrical / Mechanical / Civil / Energy / Power Engineering, Health and Safety, Quality Management, or similar.

Ecology Graduate - Glasgow and London

Wind now supplies 20% of the UK’s energy and ScottishPower Renewables has more than 40 windfarms supplying clean, green energy into the grid. Between 2020-2025, we’re investing more than £3.7 billion to increase renewable capacity across the UK. And with that increase in generation comes a responsibility to minimise the impact on nature and the environment. With over 99 square kilometres of land around our renewable energy projects, our Ecology Team are responsible for providing benefits for our natural environment.

With most of our projects being situated in the uplands our work is focussed on peatland habitats and features extensive restoration of blanket bog. We also have over 10 square kilometres of native woodland at varying stages of establishment from the far southwest up to the highlands and we expect this to continue grow. As an Ecology Graduate, you’ll support the delivery of our strategic objectives and conduct targeted monitoring to determine trends and progress. You could support these restoration projects by helping guide and implement the practical restoration work, conduct surveys to obtain empirical data to analyse. You could also complete research into windfarm interactions with wildlife, particularly birds and bats, in order to further our understanding of windfarm effects and help inform the design of future projects.

We want to hear from you NOW if you have, or expect to achieve, an Honours Degree (or equivalent) at a minimum of 2:2 in an Environmental, Sustainability, Ecology degree or similar science-based degree.

Environment Graduate - Glasgow

Never before has environmental awareness been so prevalent on the world stage. But here at ScottishPower Renewables, it’s always been top of our agenda. Our Environment Team are advocates for our business, ensuring that our renewables generation has minimum impact on nature and the environment. Whether it’s environmental impact assessments or community engagement initiatives, our concern for the environment is one of our primary objectives and we’re looking for an Environment graduate who shares our passion.

One of the most topical outputs of COP26 was the agreement to phase out coal-fuelled generation. While we’re ahead of the game on that front, it increases the pressure to generate MORE cleaner, greener electricity. And with that comes increased demand for suitable wind generation sites. You’ll become part of the team who helps us navigate and step up to this challenge. Our Environmental experts will play a key role in reviewing our project requirements, scoping and assessing sites to consider the environmental impacts of offshore infrastructure, as we strive to increase our generation with minimal impact. Providing specialist advice on environmental compliance and engaging with the latest academic materials, you’ll be helping to deliver projects from consents to decommissioning, giving you end to end experience of the project life cycle.

We want to hear from you NOW if you have, or expect to achieve, an Honours Degree (or equivalent) at a minimum of 2:2 in an Environmental, Consents, Planning, Geotechnical degree or similar.

 Renewables Commercial Graduate – Glasgow

Our Commercial functions play a vital role within the renewables industry; monitoring and influencing the Global Energy Market, conducting analysis to identify investment opportunities and ensuring adherence to energy policy. And with environmental changes and political updates ranging from evolutionary to radical, this is a dynamic environment engaged in a wide range of business activities that will accelerate our journey to Net Zero.

As a Commercial Graduate, you’ll support the SPR Investment Office, providing financial analysis of Onshore and Offshore Renewable investment opportunities. Presenting an economic business case to local and global executives, your report will allow the Final Investment Decision to be made on a proposed project. Or your analysis and due diligence might be used to make acquisition and divestment decisions, supporting the enhancement of our organic pipeline of projects, essential to our ambitious growth plans.

You’ll participate in the Capacity Market in the UK and Ireland, developing your understanding of the market rules, pre-qualifying sites and preparing for auctions. And of course, we want to maximise the competitiveness of our projects to secure a Route to Market, so you’ll need to get to know our competitors intimately. Using this knowledge, you’ll collate market intelligence and collaborate with multiple stakeholders to identify ways to financially optimise our projects in these extremely competitive markets. We’re committed to investing in a greener future and we’d love for you to join us.

We want to hear from you if you have, or expect to achieve, an Honours Degree (or equivalent) at a minimum of 2:2 in a Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting degree or similar.

Geotechnical Graduate - Glasgow or London

As our renewables business evolves, we’re striving to strengthen our energy portfolio as we continue our path to achieve Net Zero. And with that change, we need a diverse range of specialists. Our Geotechnical experts play an important role in assessing the geophysical viability of our projects, from monitoring geothermal energy systems to the geotechnical aspects of wind energy. And with a vast array of projects in planning and construction, there’s never been a more exciting time for a Geotechnical graduate to join our team.

The offshore wind industry is expanding rapidly and ScottishPower is at the forefront of that development. With a range of multi-million-pound projects across the world, at various stages from consents to construction, our Geotechnical graduate will gain invaluable experience of projects at all stages of the project life cycle. This introduction to the sector will give you the unrivalled opportunity to put your studies into practice while gaining practical on the job experience.
