Lord Kerr of Kinlochard GCMG Appointed as Vice Chairman of ScottishPower Limited


Following its meeting today, the Board of Directors of ScottishPower Limited approved the appointment of Lord Kerr as the new Vice Chairman of ScottishPower Limited.

Commenting on today’s appointment, Ignacio Galán, Chairman Iberdrola and ScottishPower said: “I am very pleased that Lord Kerr has agreed to accept this important position. Lord Kerr was an inaugural member of the Board of ScottishPower Limited following the integration in 2007 and we have highly valued his insight and leadership over this period. Iberdrola is a global organisation and we understand the importance of local management in the 40 countries in which we operate.”

Lord Kerr of Kinlochard GCMG, said: “ScottishPower has played a major role in developing the UK’s energy infrastructure throughout the time I have served on the Board. The energy industry in the UK faces a number of major challenges over the next decade. I look forward to continuing to help ScottishPower during this period, in which we, and the wider industry, are seeking to invest billions of pounds to upgrade.”

In addition, Lord Gus MacDonald’s appointment was confirmed as Chair of the Audit Committee of ScottishPower Limited. The first meeting under his Chairmanship was held earlier this week.

John Kerr was Foreign Office Permanent-Under-Secretary, from 1997 to 2002, after spells in HM Treasury (where he was Principal Private Secretary to Chancellors Howe and Lawson), and as Ambassador to the EU (1990/95) and the US (1995/97). In 2002/3 he was Secretary-General of the EU Convention under President Giscard d'Estaing; and in 2004 he became an (independent) member of the House of Lords, where he serves on the EU Committee. Lord Kerr is Deputy Chairman and Senior Independent Director of Royal Dutch Shell plc, and a Director of Rio Tinto and the Scottish American Investment Trust. He is Chairman of the Centre for European Reform; Vice President of the European Policy Centre in Brussels and a Council Member of Business for New Europe.
