H.R.H. THE PRINCE OF WALES VISITS THE IBERDROLA BUS IN MADRID WITH IGNACIO GALÁN

H.R.H. Prince Charles of Wales visited the Iberdrola Bus at Madrid’s Plaza Mayor this afternoon along with Ignacio Galán, Chairman of IBERDROLA, where he learned about the company's commitment to the environment and sustainable development.

The Prince was accompanied by the British Ambassador to Spain, Giles Paxman, and the Embassy's Senior Trade and Investment Advisor for the Energy sector, Marianne Carlin. Also in attendance for IBERDROLA were Samantha Barber, Member of the Board of ScottishPower, and Frank Mitchell, Director of Energy Networks in the Scottish subsidiary.

During the visit, which was part of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales' official visit to Spain to support business ties between the two countries, IBERDROLA briefed those in attendance on its main environmental projects and the various energy sources promoted by the company.

Prince Charles and his entourage attended various presentations by a group of children on hydroelectric, solar or biomass energy. He earlier took part in a private meeting with the President of the Madrid regional government, Esperanza Aguirre, at which Ignacio Galán and other Spanish business leaders were present.

The IBERDROLA vehicle, which first took to the road in 2005, is equipped with 3D image viewers, a stereo hi-fi system, a 60" plasma screen and a DVD player for informational and educational films on the environment and renewable energies.

The IBERDROLA bus welcomed around 100,000 visitors in 2010, a figure that represents a 25% increase on the previous year.  The company's green vehicle travelled to around 60 locations throughout Spain last year.

The IBERDROLA bus was visited various groups: schools and training centres, cultural institutions, media, corporate groups and consumers' associations.  The company's employees were also given the opportunity to visit.

The IBERDROLA bus registered an average of over 8,200 visitors per month, with December being the month when most people visited the vehicle  (33,500).   In terms of visitor profile, children under the age of 13 represented 39% of visitors, with 30% being in the 25-60 year age bracket.

The Environmental Campaign organised by the company every year has the main aim of promoting among its customers and in society in general a commitment to sustainable development, which is one of the hallmarks of IBERDROLA.

The IBERDROLA bus aims at strengthening the Group's ties with the community, especially in the autonomous regions where it operates, and at strengthening its brand values: respect for the environment and a commitment to innovation and internationalisation.

IBERDROLA in the United Kingdom

The Company has invested €20.8 billion in the UK since 2007, the year when it acquired ScottishPower, and plans to invest another €3.4 billion over the next three years with the bulk focused on networks (47%) and renewable energy (33%). The UK subsidiary obtained €1.349 billion in Ebitda in 2010, equivalent to 18% of Group operating earnings, while revenues came to €8,347.8 million or 27.4% of the total.

In the UK the IBERDROLA Group has an installed capacity of 6,968 megawatts (MW), of which 930 MW is wind power. The company increased its energy output by 6.5% last year, reaching 27,968 million kilowatt hours (kWh).

IBERDROLA is also at the forefront of offshore and tidal power development in the UK. These new energy sources are considered the second renewables revolution. The company has opened an Offshore Business Division in Scotland to manage the significant volume of wind power facilities that it has been awarded - over 12,000 MW worldwide.

The Group's subsidiary plans to set up the first tidal power project in the world, a plant that will have a capacity of 10 MW, enough electricity for the entire isle of Islay, off the coast of which the facility will be located.

IBERDROLA has also received the go-ahead to build a combined cycle gas-fired power station in South-East England. The new facility will be called Damhead Creek II. It will have an installed capacity of 1,000 MW and require an investment of around 500 million pounds sterling over the three-year construction period.

The IBERDROLA Group also operates in the United Kingdom via the joint venture firm NuGen - along with GDF Suez and Scottish and Southern Energy, which is set to develop a 3,600 MW nuclear power plant in West Cumbria.
