ScottishPower Pipe Band: New Yorker Flies In For 17th World Championships

08/08/2011

Members of the ScottishPower Pipe Band are eagerly anticipating the upcoming World Championships on Saturday 13th August and none more so than piper, Jason Briscoe, who is traveling across from his home in New York to play with the band.

Jason, who was born and grew up in Canada, made his debut at the World Championships at just 15 years old but this is the first time he will be competing with the grade 1 ScottishPower Pipe Band who were placed in sixth position last year.

His dedication to playing with the band has seen him flying over from New York once a month for rehearsals and to compete in this season’s Scottish, British and European Championships, where the band has enjoyed great success.

Jason said: “The ScottishPower Pipe Band is renowned for harnessing some of the strongest piping and drumming talent across the globe. Having previously played with a North American grade 1 championship pipe band, the ScottishPower Pipe Band was always a strong competitor of ours.

“I’ve also grown up alongside several members of the band. Having started piping at the age of ten, and now having the opportunity to play in a professional, world-class setting with close friends is both exciting and inspiring. It is a challenge travelling overseas once a month but the reward at the end of the day is immense.”

The world-class, grade 1 pipe band will also be making its debut performance at the Energy Concert on 10th August to promote the talents within the band as well as showcase the energy, drive and commitment that it takes to perform and compete at the highest level.

Ann Loughrey, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility for ScottishPower, said: “Success for the ScottishPower Pipe Band is built on the talent and dedication shown by each and every member of the band, in particular, Jason, whose commitment to fly across each month is remarkable.”

“We’re proud to be their sponsors and wish the band every success at both the Energy Concert and the subsequent World Championships.”
