As part of SP Energy Networks’ major £15 million investment programme to replace high voltage underground cables between the Lister Drive and Garston areas of Liverpool, the company has outlined the next stage of work in the “Old Swan” area from Derby Lane, across Prescot Road Junction and onwards along Broad Green Road.
SP Energy Networks, Iberdrola Engineering Construction and main contractors Excalon have been working closely with Liverpool City Council and other stakeholders, to develop plans in order to minimise disruption to one of Liverpool’s most traffic sensitive routes in and out of town. In order to complete this final section of ducting installation, the School Half Term Holidays (between 24/10/14 and 03/11/14) has been chosen, as traffic is typically quieter.
During this period, Broad Green Road will be fully closed to vehicles at its junction with Prescot Road, and Derby Lane will be closed in a southerly direction only towards Prescot Road. Appropriate traffic diversions will be in place for the duration of the works. The junction of Prescot Road and St Oswalds Street will be controlled with 3-way temporary traffic signals. Prescot Road will be reduced to a single lane in both directions through the junction to enable traffic to safely pass through the roadworks. It is anticipated that delays will be experienced through the works so road-users are advised to seek alternative routes.
A spokesperson for SP Energy Networks said: “Together with Liverpool City Council and stakeholders all efforts are being made to keep traffic flowing. We have now posted signage along the route to advise of the upcoming work. We would like to thank residents for their patience so far, and we would encourage people to carefully plan their journeys in advance during this 9 day period. This major investment programme is designed to guarantee the continued high standards of electricity supplies across Liverpool, and replace cables that are approaching the end of their service.”
