ScottishPower Wins Environment Awards For Sub-Station
18 October 1997
A ScottishPower sub-station in the heart of Edinburgh, recently transformed into an "industrial work of art", has won three prestigious environmental awards - including an international award from the US Illumination Engineering Society.
The lighting display at the Dewar Place sub-station has been reprogrammed to add additional drama to the complex, which includes a former power station which has been converted as ScottishPower offices and next week is the media centre for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
The substation has also won an Environmental Regeneration Award from Scottish National Heritage and Scottish Enterprise and ScottishPower engineer David Anderson, who developed the project, yesterday won an Engineering Environment award presented by the Engineering Council and the Institute of Building.
"ScottishPower constantly seeks to improve the environmental impact of all its operations. So rather than try to hide this particular substation, we decided to show it off through a complete re-design which we believe enhances a prestigious area of the city that attracts many visitors," Mr Anderson said on receiving the award.
