ScottishPower Wins Another Green Award
9 May 2002
ScottishPower's "green" credentials gained further recognition today when the energy company won a top award for its environmental reporting.
The honour was presented by Michael Meacher, Minister for the Environment, at the Association of Charted Certified Accountants (ACCA) annual Sustainability Awards in London.
The ACCA award was established in 1991 to support and encourage the development of environmental reporting techniques, a practice that has expanded over the last 10 years to meet increased demand from stakeholders for corporate environmental accountability.
Fred Dinning, ScottishPower Group Environment Director, said: "Producing the Report has helped us better understand the role of sustainable development in the energy industry. This includes key areas for us such as renewable energy, energy efficiency and reducing emissions from non renewable sources, all within a framework which is affordable and protects the socially disadvantaged.
"Environmental Reports should not be viewed simply as 'publicity material' although many of the issues in the Report are becoming important marketing tools, such as green tariffs and customer energy efficiency."
ScottishPower, short listed in the ACCA awards in the past two years, recently gained first place in the an annual survey of environmental performance of UK businesses by the Business in the Environment organisation.
