ScottishPower Plugs In Two New Electric Cars
7 October 1998
Two environmentally friendly electric cars joined the ScottishPower transport fleet today. The Peugeot 106 Electric models, available only to utilities and local authorities in the UK, will be used by staff on city-based journeys between the company's main centres in Glasgow, Atlantic Quay and Spean Street, Cathcart.
Ian Robinson, Chief Executive of ScottishPower, was the first person to try out the new cars and welcomed the company's latest energy saving initiative.
"Staff travel between the two offices frequently throughout each day, with the normal mode of transport being petrol or diesel cars. The new cars will help us to minimise our emissions of carbon dioxide in this busy section of the city," said Mr Robinson.
The cars have a range on each charge of 55 miles and a top speed of 60 mph. ScottishPower's Transport General Manager, Alan Smith, commented: "We were seeking performance of a type which has less to do with the stopwatch and more to do with clean air.
"As active members of the Energy Saving Trust, we want to promote a clean, safe environment. Of course we are also flying the electricity flag. You can plug them in anywhere with a variation of the 13amp plug - beside the house, if you like. I can see a great future in these little cars as town transport," Alan added.
