ScottishPower Opens Fourth Northern Irish Windfarm
27 June 2006
The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Peter Hain, today officially opened ScottishPower's fourth Northern Irish windfarm at Callagheen, County Fermanagh.
Callagheen's 13 turbines will generate 17MW, enough clean green energy for 10,000 homes, and offset 38,000 tonnes of CO2 -- equivalent to taking 12,000 cars off the roads.
The project, which ScottishPower bought from RES in October 2005 for £17m, will be the only windfarm constructed in Northern Ireland this year.
Keith Anderson, ScottishPower's Renewables Director, said: "Callagheen, ScottishPower's 15th windfarm, will provide enough green energy for towns the size of Downpatrick or Cookstown and will make a vital contribution to meeting Kyoto targets for tackling climate change".
