PacifiCorp Seeks Bids for 1,100MW of Green Energy
11 February 2004
ScottishPower's Oregon-based subsidiary, PacifiCorp, today announced a Request For Proposals (RFP) for up to 1,100 MW of renewable power over the next seven years, one of the biggest green initiatives of its kind in the US.
"This is a positive development in our plan to invest in more renewable generation," Judi Johansen, president and CEO of PacifiCorp, said. "Building a diverse, low-cost and low-risk energy portfolio that includes large amounts of renewables will allow us to meet demand and provide the best value for our customers."
Bidders for the contracts will be able to offer a range of renewable resources, though most are expected to comprise wind power.
The RFP is part of PacifiCorp's Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) process, a 10 year plan to ensure secure, low-cost energy for its customers. Pacificorp, a regulated power company, currently controls 107MW of wind power. Its unregulated sister company PPM, which will not be allowed to bid, controls 830MW.
