ScottishPower in Major Green Deal with the Co-Operative Group

3 October 2006

In one of the biggest deals of its kind, ScottishPower has signed a three-year contract with the Co-Operative Group to supply green energy to 4,500 of its sites throughout the UK.  These include corner shops, funeral parlours, pharmacies, travel agencies and CIS Co-operative Insurance outlets.

ScottishPower, the UK's biggest generator and developer of wind energy, will provide the Co-Op 100% renewables-produced electricity in a contract, at a fixed price for the first year, which came into effect on 1 October 2006. The agreement builds on a similar, newly-expired deal and a £17m joint venture between the two companies a 16MW windfarm at Coldham in Cambridgeshire which opened earlier this year.

Willie MacDiarmid, ScottishPower's Energy Retail Director, said: "Following the opening of our joint windfarm this year - this green energy deal strengthens our relationship with the Co-Operative Group and reinforces both organisations commitment to responsible business and the environment".
