• Last Village In North Wales Connected To The National Grid Just In Time For Christmas 19 December 2008 ScottishPower has recently completed work to connect the village of Abergeirw in Mid Wales to the electricity network for the first time – thought to be the last village in their network area to be fully connected to the National Grid. Work to install 9km of overhead power lines and construct 9 substations began in June 2008 and was completed at the start of December. The village, which consists of 9 properties, will now have a full electricity connection in time for Christmas.
• General Motors Europe & Iberdrola Agree To Study Technical Viability Of Recharging Infrastructure For Plug-In Electric Vehicles 18 December 2008 Madrid – General Motors Europe and Iberdrola have signed an agreement to jointly study the technical requirements of a recharging infrastructure for the deployment and viability of plug-in electric cars. The agreement has been signed by Javier Villalba, Director of Spain Network Business, and Jamal El-Hout, Vice President, Product Planning from General Motors Europe.

• ScottishPower On-Course To Complete Half Of Energy Efficiency Target This Year 18 November 2008 ScottishPower has announced that it is on-course to complete almost half (46%) of its Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) programme by the end of December, which means the company will have installed energy efficiency measures equivalent to insulating over 380,000 homes across the UK. CERT - which came into effect on 1 April 2008 and is due to run until 2011 - is an obligation on energy suppliers to achieve targets for promoting reductions in carbon emissions in homes across the UK.

• ScottishPower Looks To North Sea Storage Potential For Carbon Emissions 16 September 2008 A consortium led by ScottishPower, which recently qualified as an entrant to the Government's competition to develop the UK's first commercial scale Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project, is investigating the possibility of utilising a rock formation in the North Sea that could potentially store all of Europe's C02 emissions for the next 600 years.
• ScottishPower Comments On Winter Fuel Package 11 September 2008 ScottishPower, together with the other five UK major energy suppliers, has agreed to the Government’s plans to increase current investment in the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) by 20% between 2008 and 2011 amounting to an extra investment of £560 million across the industry.  ScottishPower will also contribute to the new Community Energy Saving Programme, which is similar to the CERT obligation. This represents an another increase of 12.5 % to the CERT programme which will be split between the other five energy suppliers and the UK’s independent electricity generators – representing a separate rise for the industry of £350 million.

• Two Golden Eagle Chicks Hatched At ScottishPower Renewables' Windfarm Site 8 September 2008 A pair of Golden Eagles nesting in a uniquely created habitat management area beside ScottishPower Renewables’ Beinn an Tuirc windfarm in Argyll have successfully hatched two chicks – the first eaglets that have been recorded from this nest in more than a decade. The conservation area is the largest of its kind for Golden Eagles in the UK, and was created by ScottishPower Renewables with investment of more than £2m during the construction of the windfarm.
• Planning Permission for West of Duddon Offshore Windfarm 4 September 2008 Today the UK has taken a major step towards achieving its 2020 renewable energy target with the announcement of consent being granted for a new 500MW offshore windfarm at West of Duddon Sands (WODS).
• ScottishPower Energy Prices - 1st September 2008 29 August 2008 Today, ScottishPower was forced to follow other energy providers and become one of the last major suppliers to announce new energy prices for domestic customers. The announcement is a direct result of continued increases to input costs of coal and wholesale gas.

• ScottishPower plans a £12m investment in Wishaw 15 August 2008 ScottishPower is investing £12 million in a major project to upgrade underground power cables in the Wishaw area. The cables run from the main grid substation at Gowkthrapple to the original Ravenscraig site, where they once provided supplies to the steel works. Predominantly the cables now provide supply for industrial customers at Dalziel Steel Works and BOC Gases, but also provide added security to the local area network.

• Iberdrola Renovables Acquires Rights Over A 1,600 MW Portfolio Of Wind Projects In Romania 13 February 2008 IBERDROLA RENOVABLES has signed a contract with Eolica Dobrogea (Schweiz) AG, a company belonging to the Swiss engineering group NEK and the Romanian company Rokura, to acquire a portfolio of approximately 50 wind projects totalling around 1,600 megawatts (MW), located in the Dobrogea region in eastern Romania. The price may be between 200 and 300 million euros, depending on the sites eventually acquired.
• ScottishPower Starts One of the Longest Under-Sea Cabling Project in the UK 8 February 2008 ScottishPower has started work on an ambitious project to secure the electricity network between Aberdyfi and Aberystwyth. The project will replace two 1.5km cable circuits under the Dovey Estuary from Ynyslas beach to Aberdyfi Golf Club and will be one of the longest under-sea cabling project in the UK.
• Soaring Coal and Gas Costs Force ScottishPower to Announce New Energy Prices 1 February 2008 ScottishPower was today forced to follow other energy providers and announce new energy prices for domestic customers as a result of continued increases to input costs, including coal and wholesale gas. By January this year the cost of coal, a key input for ScottishPower, had risen by 97% and wholesale gas prices had risen by 83% compared to February 2007.
