Simply Green Energy From ScottishPower – Wind Power Giant Launches Certified Green Tariff

ScottishPower, part of the world’s largest wind energy company*, has launched a new green tariff that will allow customers to support renewable electricity generation and make a positive contribution to the environment. The tariff meets Ofgem’s Green Supply Guidelines and has been certified under the new, independent Green Energy Certification Scheme. Called ‘Simply Green Energy’, the tariff will match every unit of electricity used by a customer with an equivalent amount of energy generated from renewable wind sources.

ScottishPower Renewables Nearly Doubles Wind Power Output During 2009

ScottishPower Renewables (SPR), the largest developer and generator of onshore wind power in the UK, nearly doubled its electricity output during 2009, producing just over 1.7 million megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity from its 23 operational windfarms. The rise of 43.8% on 2008 figures meant that the company produced enough clean, green electricity to power the average annual needs of over 375,000 homes.

Europe’s Largest Onshore Windfarm Set To Grow Again - A Further 39 Turbines At Whitelee

ScottishPower Renewables was today given permission by the Scottish Government to develop a second extension at Whitelee Windfarm, near Glasgow, which will see Europe’s largest onshore windfarm add a further 39 turbines, increasing overall capacity up to 593MW. This means that Whitelee will be capable of generating enough clean, green energy to power over 330,000 homes, more than the 295,000 households in the City of Glasgow*.

ScottishPower Ramps Up Smart Meter Trials Following Government Announcement

Following the publication of the Government’s response to their recent consultation on smart metering, ScottishPower has announced that it intends to increase the number of devices it installs in customers homes as it prepares for a full roll-out of the new technology - expected to commence in 2012. Construction work has officially started at one of Scotland’s largest windfarms - the 120MW 60 turbine project at Arecleoch near Barrhill, South Ayrshire.
