ScottishPower has successfully reached agreement with the energy regulator Ofgem to fund an investment plan totalling £2.6 billion pounds over the 8-year period from 2013 to 2021 that will see the creation of up to 1,500 jobs in Scotland. The company’s plans have been fast tracked for approval by Ofgem, who have agreed a 4.5% rate of return on investment over the period.

Following the major fire that was deliberately started by criminals near junction 25A of the M8 on Monday evening (7th November), causing considerable electricity supply problems, ScottishPower has confirmed that the substantial damage to two of its high voltage power cables will take more than a fortnight to fully repair. The company has warned that the electricity network in the Southside of Glasgow will be considerably weaker until the full repairs can be completed.

Methil Chimney Set For Explosive End

ScottishPower Renewables Receives Consent To Develop The World’s First Tidal Power Array In The Sound Of Islay

The Scottish Government today (Thursday 17th March) approved ScottishPower Renewables’ plans to develop a 10MW tidal power array in The Sound of Islay on Scotland’s west coast. The project, the first of its kind in the world, envisages generating enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of the whole island. It is also the first tidal array project to be approved by Marine Scotland, the directorate of Scottish Government responsible for the management of Scotland's seas.

ScottishPower engineers are becoming increasingly alarmed at a sharp rise in dangerous activity on the electricity network in Ayrshire. As well as a major increase in theft of copper from electricity poles and substations, a recent act of vandalism in a substation resulted in an explosion that could have had fatal consequences.
